Amid growing online speculation, representatives for Phil Collins have confirmed that the legendary musician is not in hospice care, contrary to social media rumors. Instead, the 73-year-old is recovering in hospital following knee surgery, his team told The Independent.
Though the origin of the misinformation is unclear, the statement brings relief to fans concerned by the alarming posts circulating over the past few days.
A Long, Public Battle with Health
While not in critical care, Collins has spoken candidly about his declining health. In a recent interview with Mojo, he shared a sense of physical and creative fatigue:
“I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I’m not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I’ve been sick, I mean very sick…”
His health issues began after Genesis’ 2007 reunion tour, when a neck injury led to nerve damage. Multiple spinal surgeries followed, further limiting his mobility and ability to perform — especially on the drums, once his signature instrument.
Holding On to the Music
Even so, Collins returned to the stage for Genesis’ The Last Domino? tour in 2021, singing while his son Nic filled in on drums. “I can barely hold a stick,” he admitted at the time. “It’s very frustrating because I’d love to be playing.”
In a 2024 documentary, viewers saw a tender moment as Collins sat at a drum kit once more. “If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks again, I will have a crack at it,” he said. “I just feel like I’ve used up my air miles.”
Not gone, not forgotten — just quietly healing.
