Founding KISS drummer Peter Criss is making a long-awaited comeback with a brand-new solo record simply titled Peter Criss, due out December 19.

According to the album’s Bandcamp announcement, the self-titled release “represents the Catman’s return to form” and stands as his “most rock-driven solo album ever.” The record will feature guest appearances from guitarist John 5, bassist Billy Sheehan, and bandleader Paul Shaffer.

All CD and digital editions of Peter Criss will include the bonus track “Hard Rock Knockers,” while vinyl versions will come with a download card for the same track. A full track listing and a preview clip of the first single, “Creepy Crawlers,” have also been revealed.

“We Had a Ball”

Criss first teased the project back in April, confirming that recording had wrapped and promising fans a heavy, old-school rock sound.

“I have my new rock and roll album to you, Kiss Army guys, coming out in the fall,” he said at the time. “And I really hope you like it, man. What can I say? We had a ball.”

The announcement marks Criss’ first solo release in nearly two decades and his first new studio effort since officially retiring from touring.

Looking Back, Moving Forward

The last time Criss released a solo album was in 2007 with One for All, a record that showcased his softer, more introspective side. Ten years later, he stepped away from the stage entirely, citing both his age and the changing face of rock.

“[I] see now all these guys from the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart — we’re all in our 70s now,” he said at the time. “And I hate to say it but we’re dying out, and that’s so real. There’s less rock and roll in the world, less music in the world, and it’s kinda sad. So I’m 71; I’m in the best health I’ve been in for a while, and I thought if I’m gonna do it, I gotta do it now.”

Now, at 79, the Catman’s claws are out once again. With Peter Criss, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer looks ready to remind fans why his voice — and his backbeat — helped shape the heart and soul of KISS.
