Paul Simon’s “Extreme Back Pain” Caused Him To Cancel His Shows

Paul Simon has canceled two shows scheduled for this weekend in Philadelphia due to ongoing health issues. The iconic singer-songwriter is dealing with severe back pain that has recently worsened.
In a statement, Simon’s team shared the update:
“Regretfully, Paul Simon must cancel two shows tonight June 28 and tomorrow night June 29 at Philadelphia’s Academy of Music.
Paul has been struggling with chronic and intense back pain. Today it became unmanageable and demands immediate attention.
Unfortunately, we have to cancel these shows at this time, as we don’t have the ability to reschedule them. However, we are hopeful after this minor surgical procedure which has been scheduled in the next few days, Paul will be able to complete the tour as well as look into returning to make up these dates.”
Simon had already performed the first of three planned Philadelphia shows on Thursday night before the cancellations were announced.
Health Struggles Continue After Hearing Loss
This is not the first health challenge Simon has faced in recent years. In 2023, he revealed that he had lost hearing in one ear, which made live performances increasingly difficult and necessitated adjustments to his touring approach.
Despite these issues, Simon launched the Quiet Celebration tour in April, performing in smaller, more intimate venues designed to suit his current needs.
Quiet Celebration Tour Still Moving Forward
The Quiet Celebration tour features two distinct sets: a full-album performance of Simon’s reflective 2023 release Seven Psalms, followed by a mix of solo material and classic Simon & Garfunkel songs, including some rarities.
Simon’s next scheduled concert is Monday, July 7, in Long Beach, California. There are 15 remaining dates on the tour, including a five-night run in Los Angeles and a final trio of shows in Seattle on July 31, August 2, and 3.
