Paul McCartney recently shared a fun reflection on his current solo band, which has been together longer than The Beatles and Wings combined. His band—featuring guitarists Rusty Anderson and Brian Ray, drummer Abe Laboriel Jr., and keyboardist Wix Wickens—has been working as a tight-knit unit for over twenty years now.
The Beatles lasted from 1960 to 1970, while Wings was around from 1971 to 1981, adding up to just under 20 years total. “We get on so well!” McCartney said, discussing the secret to their longevity. “You used to hear, particularly in the ‘70s, of bands breaking up and arguing and not lasting. But with this one, we just get on really well.”
The Secret to Their Success
McCartney went on to explain how their band has become a well-oiled machine. “We’ve got it now so we can play, we can discuss things and we can make decisions within the band. And it works well – we’ve been together now for over 20 years, which is crazy!” The sense of camaraderie and mutual respect has certainly helped them thrive for so long.
Paul’s New Year Resolution: Finish an Album
When a fan asked McCartney about his New Year’s resolution, he had a clear goal in mind:
“Here’s one: finish an album! I’ve been working on a lot of songs and have had to put it to the side because of the tour. … I’m hoping to get back into that and finish up a lot of these songs.”
But before diving back into the studio, McCartney planned to take some time to enjoy the holidays with his family. “I’m one of those guys that loves to overdo decorations, so I need a minute to sit back, relax and enjoy them,” he added. It looks like McCartney’s ready for a balance of family time and music-making in the new year!
