A Look Into Paul’s Post-Beatles Years

A new documentary, Man on the Run, focuses on Paul McCartney’s early solo years and the creation of his post-Beatles band, Wings. The film will make its television debut on February 25, 2026, through Amazon Prime Video.

The first official trailer has now been released on both McCartney’s and Prime Video’s YouTube channels. Set to the Wings classic “Band on the Run,” the clip features archival photos and footage of The Beatles, McCartney, and his late wife, Linda. Paul narrates much of the preview, recalling the uncertainty that followed The Beatles’ breakup.

“The Beatles had broken up,” Paul says in the promo. “And I was thinking, ‘What do I do now? How can I ever do anything that’s anywhere near as good as The Beatles?’ I was on my own for the first time. I had to look inside myself. So, I put a new band together. I thought we should start from square one. It was a puzzle I had to unravel.”

The trailer also promises that Man on the Run will feature “rare unreleased music and footage.”

From Telluride to Streaming

The documentary first premiered at the 2025 Telluride Film Festival in Colorado on August 30. Before its arrival on Prime Video, it will have limited theatrical screenings.

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville—known for 20 Feet from Stardom—the project gives a deeply personal look at McCartney’s creative rebirth. Neville conducted seven in-depth interviews with Paul and had full access to the musician’s journals, as well as Linda McCartney’s photographs documenting their family and band life. McCartney also served as one of the film’s executive producers.

A New Book and Music Collection

Alongside the film, McCartney will release a memoir titled Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run on November 4, 2025. The book covers the same period explored in the documentary—charting the rise and evolution of Wings from its start in the early 1970s until its end in 1981.

The memoir was developed from dozens of hours of new interviews with McCartney and “numerous key players” involved with the band. A companion compilation, simply titled WINGS, will follow on November 7. The collection, curated by McCartney, will include 32 tracks across a three-LP or two-CD set, a shorter single-disc edition, and digital formats.

A Blu-ray edition—exclusive to McCartney’s online store—will feature Dolby Atmos and 5.1 mixes by Giles Martin and Steve Orchard, along with a high-resolution stereo version. Fans can pre-order the compilation now through McCartney’s official website.

Back on the Road

While celebrating the upcoming releases, McCartney remains active on stage. He’s currently on the North American leg of his Got Back World Tour, which began September 26 in Santa Barbara, California.

The 21-date run continues through November 25 with a two-night finale in Chicago at the United Center. His next performance takes place on October 29 in New Orleans at the Smoothie King Center. A complete list of tour dates is available at PaulMcCartney.com.
