Ozzy Osbourne was officially inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday night, making him one of only 27 artists to be honored more than once. This latest recognition celebrates his legendary solo career, which took off in 1980 with the release of Blizzard of Ozz after he was fired from Black Sabbath. His first induction came in 2006 as a member of Black Sabbath.
A Rock Legend Honored Again
The iconic rocker was introduced by actor and Tenacious D frontman Jack Black, who didn’t hold back in praising Osbourne. “The greatest frontman in the history of rock ‘n’ roll – Ozzy Osbourne,” Black proclaimed, recalling how the cover of Blizzard of Ozz blew his mind.
“It was the most metal thing I had ever seen, and I didn’t even know what metal was. Then I went back to Ozzy’s earlier albums with Black Sabbath and thought, ‘Unholy shit, this motherf—er invented heavy metal.’”
Ozzy’s Humble Acceptance
Seated on a throne, Osbourne accepted his award to a standing ovation. “I can’t believe I’m here myself,” he said with a smile. Expressing gratitude, he added, “My fans have been so loyal to me over the years, I can’t thank them enough.” He also took a moment to pay tribute to the late Randy Rhoads, the guitarist who played a crucial role in shaping his solo sound. “If I hadn’t met Randy Rhoads, I wouldn’t be sitting here tonight,” Osbourne shared, acknowledging his deep gratitude for his late bandmate.
Though the rock icon had been battling Parkinson’s disease and other health issues that kept him off the stage in the last few years, nothing stopped him from making an impact during the ceremony. He kicked off the tribute performance with his classic scream, “All aboard!” before the band launched into “Crazy Train.”
Ozzy’s most recent solo album, Patient Number Nine, was released in 2022. His last tour, No More Tours II in 2018, referenced his earlier retirement and hinted that it could be his final tour.
