Ozzy Osbourne recently opened up about his ongoing relationship with marijuana after years of well-documented struggles with drug abuse.

On a September episode of The Madhouse Chronicles, his online talk show with Billy Idol guitarist Billy Morrison, Osbourne shared that while he’s mostly drug-free these days, he still uses a bit of weed. “I’m happier, but I’m not completely sober. I use a bit of marijuana from time to time,” he admitted.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee credits much of his recovery from harder substances to his wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne. “I’m lucky: My wife kicked my butt all the time. She would make life so difficult,” he said, adding, “Even the marijuana, she’ll find it and get rid of it.” Sharon’s tough love seems to have played a crucial role in keeping Ozzy on track.

No Microdosing for Ozzy

During their chat, Morrison asked Osbourne about the trendy practice of microdosing, which involves taking very small amounts of drugs like LSD or mushrooms for supposed mental benefits. Osbourne was skeptical. “Microdosing is just lighting the fuse,” he said, explaining that it could easily lead to a relapse for addicts like him.

Recalling a recent visit to the doctor, he shared: “Somebody I know started doing this ketamine thing. The doctor put a tiny bit in me, but that was enough to spark me. That feeling came back, that weight in my brain.” For Osbourne, even small amounts of drugs can be dangerous. “They don’t make smack-lite,” he added with a grin.

A Cautionary Message for Drug Users

Reflecting on his past, Osbourne mentioned that Black Sabbath’s 2013 album 13, his first U.S. No. 1 record, was made while he was entirely sober. He also shared advice for those battling addiction, encouraging people to seek help. “If you’re using dope and you want to get off, there’s plenty of help,” he said, pointing to Alcoholics Anonymous as a resource that helped him for a time.

But in true Ozzy fashion, he ended with a blunt warning:

“If you’re out there [using drugs] and having the blast of your life, my hat goes off to you. But I guarantee — and I don’t give a fuck who it is — it will bite you in the balls.”
