One For The Money – Elvis’ Blue Suede Show Sold At Auction

Elvis Presley’s iconic blue suede shoes have fetched $152,000 at auction, hitting the top end of the expected price range set by Henry Aldridge & Son Ltd. The bidding started with an anticipation of $126,000 to $152,000. The auction concluded on June 28 with the shoes selling for the maximum anticipated amount.

Presley acquired these shoes shortly after his version of Carl Perkins’ “Blue Suede Shoes” was released as the opening track on his self-titled debut album in March 1956. The auction house noted on the specifics,

“Elvis wore these iconic blue suede shoes during the 1950s on and off stage. In 1958, the night before Elvis left for the Army, he gave these shoes to close friend and entourage member, Alan Fortas. The heel of each shoe is stamped ‘Nunn-Bush,’ and inside of each shoe is stamped 10-1/2, indicating the shoe size. There is a lot of history wrapped up in these well-worn blue suede shoes, which are synonymous with the name Elvis Presley.”

Elvis Presley’s Legendary Blue Suede Shoes: A Look Back

Presley wore the famous blue suede shoes during various public appearances throughout the ’50s. One of the most famous instances was his promotional visit to The Steve Allen Show in July 1956 where he performed a restrained version of “Hound Dog” to a basset hound. This iconic moment is still remembered and can be viewed in the clip below.

After Presley enlisted in the Army in March 1958, the shoes remained with Fortas for a time before being displayed in several museums over the decades. And now, the $152,000 bidder gets to keep the prized item. There’s a lot of history to this pair of kicks, no wonder it fascinates fans and collectors alike. Another cherished collectible from the King of Rock and Roll that’s one for the money.
