Eddie Vedder’s annual Ohana Music Festival kicked off Friday at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California, with the Pearl Jam frontman headlining a lineup that included Hozier, Green Day, Kings of Leon, Leon Bridges, Cage the Elephant, and many others. The festival has earned a reputation for unexpected collaborations and unique performances, and this year was no exception.
The Earthlings Open with Eclectic Covers
Vedder’s band The Earthlings—featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, producer and guitarist Andrew Watt, The Frames’ Glen Hansard, and current AC/DC bassist Chris Chaney—opened their set with Devo’s “Gut Feeling.” The group also performed The Who’s “I’m One” and the outro from Led Zeppelin’s “The Song Remains the Same,” delivering a diverse and energetic start to the festival.
Vedder Joins Tedeschi Trucks Band for Classic Who Cover
Not stopping there, Vedder joined the Tedeschi Trucks Band onstage to perform another The Who classic, the 1970 single “The Seeker.” Sharing lead vocals with the acclaimed Susan Tedeschi, Vedder contributed to a powerful rendition, which was followed by Tedeschi and Derek Trucks trading their trademark explosive guitar solos.
The Tedeschi Trucks Band’s latest release, Mad Dogs & Englishmen Revisited (Live At Lockn’), is available now.
