Nirvana fans were in for a treat as the surviving members of the iconic band reunited once again, this time with Post Malone on vocals. The reunion took place at New York’s Radio City Music Hall on Friday night, February 14th, during a special concert to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the US TV show, Saturday Night Live (SNL).
Post Malone Joins Nirvana for an Unforgettable Performance
Drummer Dave Grohl, bassist Krist Novoselic, and touring guitarist Pat Smear were joined by rapper and pop singer Post Malone. Post Malone, a known Nirvana fan, delivered lead vocals for the performance. The group gave an energetic rendition of Nirvana’s classic anthem, “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” at the SNL50: The Homecoming Concert.
Post Malone, whose real name is Austin Post, has shown his admiration for Nirvana in the past. In April 2020, he performed a livestreamed 14-song Nirvana tribute concert to honor his musical heroes. The 29-year-old singer even has a tattoo of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain on his left arm.
The night was made even more memorable when comedian Adam Sandler took the stage and introduced the reunited band as, “Post Nirvana.” Sandler reminisced about Nirvana’s first appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1992, calling it “an explosive moment for all of us.”

Dave Grohl’s Busy Schedule and Recent Performances
Dave Grohl, who is also the frontman for Foo Fighters, has made a record-breaking 15 guest appearances on Saturday Night Live. This performance was another chance for him and his bandmates to relive the past and bring Nirvana’s music to a new audience.
Just weeks before this event, on January 30th, Dave Grohl reunited with Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear for a surprise set at the FireAid Benefit Concert at the Kia Forum in California. They were joined on stage by St. Vincent, Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon, Joan Jett, and Violet Grohl. During that performance, they played several Nirvana tracks including “Breed,” “School,” “Territorial Pissings,” and “All Apologies.”
Foo Fighters’ last concert took place at T-Mobile Park in Seattle on August 18th. However, they had to cancel their performance at Soundside Music Festival in Connecticut on September 29th, just days after Dave Grohl admitted to fathering a child outside of his marriage.
