Pink Floyd Drummer Nick Mason, 81, Set to Auction Rare Collector’s Car

A Rock Legend’s Rare Car Up for Auction

Photos have surfaced revealing the rare car and exclusive memorabilia that Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason will be auctioning off next month. The 81-year-old musician, who lives in Corsham, is selling a special Pink Floyd edition Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet, with all proceeds going to the Harefield Healing Garden charity. The sale will be conducted by Iconic Auctioneers, known for handling rare and historically significant vehicles.

Alongside the car, the auction will feature several signed items from Mason’s personal collection. According to the auction house, these will include autographed drumsticks, vinyl records, DVDs, t-shirts, and other memorabilia that reflect both Mason’s musical legacy and his passion for motorsport.

The Rare Pink Floyd Edition Golf Cabriolet

The 1995 Golf Cabriolet Mk3 being sold is a Pink Floyd Edition — one of a limited run of special models produced by Volkswagen in the 1990s to mark its sponsorship of major European rock tours. Mason acquired the vehicle several years ago intending to restore it, but the restoration was never completed. However, Iconic Auctioneers stated that the car comes with “an extensive collection of accompanying parts,” making it a valuable opportunity for collectors.

The vehicle itself carries several unique design features. It includes distinct Pink Floyd badging, color-matched bumpers and mirrors, and seat upholstery inspired by the band’s 1994 Division Bell tour. It also features a factory sound system bearing the Pink Floyd logo — a detail that makes it stand out among standard Golf Cabriolet models. The auctioneers note that only a few of these cars remain in original condition today.

Auction Details and Exclusive Memorabilia

The auction will take place on November 8 at the NEC in Birmingham, as reported by the Daily Mail. The event is expected to attract both car enthusiasts and Pink Floyd fans eager to own a piece of music and automotive history. Mason’s name and direct ownership add considerable value to the lot, which combines rock memorabilia with classic car culture.

Iconic Auctioneers’ listing describes the offering as “an unrepeatable opportunity to acquire a Pink Floyd Edition Golf Cabriolet owned by a member of the band, offered with a wonderful suite of signed memorabilia and direct provenance from Nick Mason.” The description further highlights it as “a truly unique collector’s piece where music, motoring, and generosity meet in perfect harmony.”

The memorabilia included with the car comprises a signed copy of Into the Red—Mason’s acclaimed book about classic racing cars—four signed vinyl albums, a pair of signed drumsticks, multiple Pink Floyd t-shirts including the original Golf collaboration shirt, and several signed DVDs such as The Story of Wish You Were Here, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
