Next February, rock fans will get the chance to experience Becoming Led Zeppelin, an exclusive docu-concert film that delves into the iconic band’s early years and their rapid rise to fame. This movie, which has been officially approved by Led Zeppelin, takes viewers behind the scenes with never-before-seen footage, rare performances, and exclusive interviews. It promises to be a must-see for any Led Zeppelin fan, as it explores the band’s origins and their journey from local musicians to rock legends.
A Deep Dive into the Band’s Origins
Becoming Led Zeppelin is not your average documentary—it’s a cinematic experience that immerses you in the music. The film will be released exclusively in IMAX theaters on Friday, February 7, 2024. But for eager fans, there will be special early access screenings on February 5 in 18 cities across the country. Tickets for both the regular release and the early access screenings are available now at IMAX.com.
Rare Footage and Unique Sound
The film was five years in the making, with writer and producer Allison McGourty leading the effort to uncover hidden gems from the band’s past. “We spent five years flying back and forth across the Atlantic, scouring attics and basements in pursuit of rare and unseen film footage, photographs, and music recordings,” she said in a press release. Once found, the team used custom techniques to restore each piece of media, ensuring that even 55-year-old clips and recordings would sound and look fresh in the IMAX format.
Jimmy Page Approves
For years, Led Zeppelin had been approached with documentary ideas, but guitarist Jimmy Page wasn’t impressed. “The pitches we received were pretty miserable,” he explained. “They’d focus on anything but the music, and I’d immediately recoil.” But with Becoming Led Zeppelin, Page is thrilled. “It’s everything about the music,” he said. “This isn’t just snippets of songs—it’s complete versions, giving a true sense of what the music really is.” For fans, this film promises a one-of-a-kind tribute to the legendary band and its timeless sound.
