Did you really expect Motley Crue to make a quiet entrance? Of course not! The iconic White Trash Circus rocked up to their Monday night show at Los Angeles’ legendary Troubadour in true Crue fashion—riding in the back of a garbage truck. In a video shared on their social media, you can see the band members hopping out, surrounded by trash bags, a mattress, and even a stray bra and pair of heels, before being greeted by a crowd of fans on Santa Monica Boulevard.
The Hollywood Takeover Mini-Tour
Motley Crue’s performance at the Troubadour was the first stop in their Hollywood Takeover, a mini-tour aimed at reconnecting with their L.A. club roots. After the Troubadour, the band will continue the tour at the Roxy on Wednesday, and then wrap things up at the Whisky a Go Go on Friday.
Despite the small venue, the Crue didn’t hold back. Their setlist was packed with 16 of their greatest hits, including “Primal Scream,” “Shout at the Devil,” and “Kickstart My Heart.” Fans were also treated to their latest single, “Dogs of War,” and a high-energy cover of the Beastie Boys’ “Fight for Your Right.” These newer tracks are featured on their recently released EP, Cancelled.
The EP includes three songs, with the title track inspired by the band’s infamous ability to dodge controversy. “There was this article that was like, ‘How did Motley Crue ever not get canceled?’ And we were like, ‘Fuck, we gotta write a song about that because we didn’t ever get it,’” Tommy Lee said during an interview last year.
Back to Their Roots, But Still Rocking Hard
Though the “Hollywood Takeover” was designed to bring Motley Crue back to their early days playing small L.A. clubs, their performance was anything but low-key. Packed with fan favorites and new tracks, the show at the Troubadour proved the band hasn’t lost its edge. With venues like the Roxy and Whisky a Go Go next on their list, it’s clear Motley Crue still knows how to bring big energy to intimate settings.
