Metallica’s M72 World Tour Showcases Electrifying Performance of ‘Through the Never’
Metallica delivered the tour debut of “Through the Never” on their May 28 show in Germany.
As part of the band’s M72 World Tour, Metallica included the song “Through the Never” on their second of a pair of shows at the Volksparkstadion, Hamburg setlist. Initially, it was released as the seventh track on their fifth self-titled studio album, better known as The Black Album.
The trek supports the launch of Metallica’s latest album 72 Seasons, but the band promised to perform their classic hits as well.
In a recent interview with Bass Player, Robert Trujillo stated:
โOne of the beautiful things about being in Metallica is that thereโs no shortage of great ideas. โฆ With every handful of riffs we get out of Kirk, thereโs another 500 we didnโt hear. I might have 10 spare ideas for every one I put forward, things that donโt even get listened to. So I have this arsenal of bass lines and riffs that I sit on.โ
He added:
โAnd itโs not that nobody wanted to listen to them โ we just had enough. There comes a point where you donโt need any more. All of these songs have a lot of cool ideas in them.โ Describing his career with the thrash icons as a โbeautiful thing,โ that involved โpulling together all these riffs to be played by such amazing musicians who each have their own signature,โ he continued: โThatโs a special thing for me. But the scary thing is that thereโs always another 10 other riffs that didnโt make it to the drawing boardโฆ theyโre just sitting there. Itโs gotta be the best for Metallica.โ
Live recordings of the pair of Hamburg shows are now available for pre-order at Metallicaโs official online store. Watch Metallica’s live performance of “Through the Never” in the video below.
