James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich founded Metallica in the 1980s, and the band soon rose to prominence in the heavy metal scene. The band solidified its legacy in music history with the release of Master of Puppets. With more than 125 million albums sold worldwide, their success skyrocketed throughout the decades. Even though Metallica has played on some of the biggest stages in the world, they have never lost sight of their origins. They recently gave back to their fans and communities by performing at a benefit concert, embracing the holiday spirit.

A Unique Performance for a Deserving Cause

The band made a lasting impression at the Helping Hand benefit event held at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California. The All Within My Hands Foundation is an organization with a mission to improve the lives of the communities that have supported the band for years. The concert’s unique setlist included rare songs, including “Low Man’s Lyric” from their Reload album. Metallica had not performed this track live since 1998, and fans were thrilled. One commented, “Core memory unlocked. Legit forgot about this one for 20+ years. Appropriate winter song.”

Flashback to the 90s with “Fuel”

The 1997 single “Fuel,” which received Metallica a Grammy award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1999, was another fan favorite from the Reload album that was played during the show. It demonstrated the band’s extraordinary talent. The song’s influence is indisputable, and it continues to be a hit even now, despite their loss of the award.

Hetfield’s Battle with Anxiety

Although Metallica has been performing for decades, James Hetfield has been open about his struggles with anxiety. In a June interview on The Metallica Report, Hetfield shared, “The mind is the enemy most of the time.” He explained how he stays mindful of his anxiety, trying to avoid overthinking and staying connected to a higher power. “What’s supposed to come through me is supposed to right at that time, and not will it to happen,” he added. Hetfield’s vulnerability makes his performances even more inspiring.
