An Intimate Night in the Hamptons

Metallica brought a rare and intimate performance to the Hamptons on Thursday night, playing in front of just 500 people under a tent outside the Stephen Talkhouse. The small crowd setting made the show stand out from their usual stadium-scale concerts, giving longtime fans a chance to see the band up close.

Frontman James Hetfield set the tone early. “This reminds us of the club days,” he said. “Getting hot and sweaty and up close and personal. We’re gonna get loud tonight. The neighbors are gonna know who’s here.”

Famous Faces in the Audience

Tickets for the show were won through a contest, but not everyone in the audience came through luck. The event also attracted a number of well-known guests, including Paul McCartney, Michael J. Fox, Sylvester Stallone, Howard Stern, and Chris Jericho. Their presence only added to the sense of occasion as Metallica delivered a night filled with classics.

The performance included a tribute to one of rockโ€™s most legendary figures. Lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo played โ€œCrazy Trainโ€ as their nightly โ€œdoodle,โ€ honoring Ozzy Osbourne. Beyond that moment, the rest of the night was devoted to the bandโ€™s biggest songs.

A Set List of Fan Favorites

The music kicked off with โ€œCreeping Deathโ€ and powered through a string of fan favorites before closing with the anthemic โ€œEnter Sandman.โ€ Hits like โ€œFor Whom the Bell Tolls,โ€ โ€œFade to Black,โ€ and โ€œMaster of Puppetsโ€ made sure the energy stayed high throughout the night.

The 14-song set also included staples such as โ€œSeek and Destroy,โ€ โ€œSad But True,โ€ and โ€œNothing Else Matters,โ€ ensuring that the packed crowd heard the songs that defined the bandโ€™s career.

Looking Ahead to Larger Stages

The special Hamptons concert also tied into Metallicaโ€™s latest project. The band used the performance to promote their new SiriusXM channel, Maximum Metallica, launching Friday. Fans who missed the live show will be able to hear it broadcast on the channel beginning Monday, Sept. 1.

Big shows are also on the horizon. The band will appear at the Dreamfest Concert for UCSF Benioff Childrenโ€™s Hospitals at San Franciscoโ€™s Chase Center on Oct. 15. After that, Metallica will head to Australia and New Zealand in November, followed by an expansive European tour scheduled for spring and summer 2026.
