Lynyrd Skynyrd has had a tough few days, with frontman Johnny Van Zant facing some unexpected personal challenges. Johnny had to leave the band’s tour to be with his youngest daughter, Taylor, after some concerning health issues. This led to the cancellation of several shows. Then, things took another turn when Van Zant’s bus driver, Brad Gibson, ended up in the ICU following a scooter accident.
Johnny Van Zant Shares About Daughter’s Condition
In a recent video on social media, Johnny shared, “A couple of days ago, [my daughter] Taylor started having numbing feelings on her right side. She went to the emergency room, and they found a mass on her brain. Some of it was bleeding, which caused the numbness.” Fortunately, doctors have ruled out cancer, but Taylor remains under the care of a neurology team as they work to figure out what’s going on.
Due to these family health concerns, Lynyrd Skynyrd had to cancel several shows scheduled in Anchorage, Alaska, West Valley, Utah, Loveland, Colorado, Colorado Springs, and Albuquerque. But fans have been very supportive, sending love and well-wishes to Johnny and his family.
Frontman’s Bus Driver Also Met an Accident
On top of everything, Brad Gibson, Johnny’s bus driver, had a freak accident while out buying a get-well card for Taylor. “He wrecked the scooter and hit his head. He’s in the ICU,” Johnny confirmed. He asked fans to “say a prayer” for both Taylor and Brad, who’s been an incredible driver and friend to the band.
Johnny, who took over the band for his brother Ronnie Van Zant in 1987 after the tragic plane crash that claimed Ronnie’s life, remains hopeful. He recently teamed up with his other brother, Donnie Van Zant from .38 Special, to release a Christian rock album called Always Look Up.
