Late REO Speedwagon guitar player Gary Richrath passed away on September 13, 2015. And over five years after his death, new music has been released titled “Help Me Save Me From Myself” featured on the Richrath Project 3:13. Helmed by Michael Jahnz, it pays tribute to Richrath.
The pair toured together for over a decade as the Gary Richrath Band. They performed songs that Richrath penned for REO Speedwagon, as well as original Richrath songs, and those he wrote with Jahnz.
“I had a very talented group of musicians with me,” Jahnz told UCR, “so I dusted off a few of those never-before-heard tracks that Gary and I recorded in my studio, and we started working on them.”
“I had the idea, with today’s technology, to try to somehow include Gary’s actual guitar on this album,” he continued. “I went to my sound engineer with the idea, and sure enough, he was able to isolate and pull off Gary’s guitar.”
Speaking about the late guitarist, Jahnz said: “He truly moved people with his guitar playing.” He described Richrath’s style as “so simple” but “just phenomenal.” He also said that Richrath’s songwriter was “one of a kind.” Listen to the song below.
