An Awkward Mix-Up at the Royal Albert Hall
Not many people can say they’ve been insulted by a Beatle in person—but Liam Gallagher can. In 2017, he shared a strange but funny story about an awkward meeting with Paul McCartney. Gallagher spoke with NME and described how things got confusing over a drink offer.
“I’ve met him a few times, he’s been absolutely a dream,” Gallagher said. “The last time was at the Royal Albert Hall. He goes, ‘Why are you always in a rush? Sit down, sit down.’ I sit down and he goes, ‘Do you like margaritas?’ I said, ‘Yeah, but I had something before I come out, I don’t eat at this time of night.’ He said, ‘They’re f—in’ drinks, you stupid prick.’ I thought he was offering me a pizza.”

Telling the Story Again on TV
Gallagher later told the same story on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon in 2018. This time, he added that he had asked McCartney for an autograph to give to his child’s teacher. He said McCartney called him a “d—head” in the process. Gallagher didn’t seem too bothered by it—he told the story with a laugh both times.
It’s just one of many colorful stories from Gallagher, who has long been known for his outspoken and often unpredictable behavior. Still, few musicians have stories that involve Paul McCartney calling them names over a drink misunderstanding.
Paul McCartney’s Take on Margaritas
In 2022, McCartney appeared on his daughter Mary’s cooking show, Mary McCartney Serves It Up, and revealed how he makes his version of a margarita—called the “maccarita.”
The drink starts with four ounces of tequila, then equal parts Cointreau and triple sec. Instead of only lime juice, McCartney adds juice from one orange or two clementines. He shakes it with ice, saying, “You’ve gotta sing!… ‘til your hand gets cold.” Serve with or without a salted rim. Maybe next time, Liam will know it’s not a pizza.
