KISS Admit They Made a Huge Mistake With One of Their Most Famous Songs

Kiss has released a previously unheard song, “Mistake,” as part of the Dressed to Kill 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Box Set. Written by Paul Stanley, the track takes the band in an unexpected direction, exploring a country and western sound that builds to an upbeat, instrumental hoedown.
“This song was a fun detour for us,” Stanley said. “It shows a side of Kiss fans haven’t really heard before.” “Mistake” is one of two unreleased studio recordings included in the expansive collection, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the band’s third album. The box set also features alternate takes and two full, unedited 1975 concerts from the tour that led to the career-defining live album, Alive!
Early Gene Simmons Track Also Included
The second previously unreleased track is an early version of Gene Simmons’ “Burning Up With Fever.” The song appeared in demo form on the expanded box set for 1976’s Destroyer and was officially released on Simmons’ 1978 solo album. Fans will now be able to hear the track in its original studio incarnation.
“These early recordings give a glimpse into our process back in the ’70s,” Simmons said. “It’s like opening a time capsule.”
Band Prepares for First Live Shows Since Farewell Tour
In addition to the box set, Kiss is preparing for two “unmasked” performances during next month’s Kiss Kruise: Land-Locked in Vegas. These will be the band’s first live shows together since concluding their farewell tour in 2023, and their first public appearances following the October 16 death of founding guitarist Ace Frehley.
The Dressed to Kill box set is now streaming on all major platforms, with CD and vinyl editions available for pre-order through Kiss’ official website. Fans can expect a mix of nostalgia, rare material, and a fresh perspective on one of the band’s defining albums.
