Fans of progressive rock icons King Crimson should be cautious about expecting a new studio album, despite recent hints from singer and guitarist Jakko Jakszyk.
In a recent interview focusing on his solo release Son of Glen, Jakszyk revealed that the most recent version of King Crimson — thought to have ceased activity in 2021 — has been involved in sporadic studio sessions. “When that will come out and what format or how – that’s beyond my brief,” he explained. “I’ve been recording that with a view to it coming out in some format at some point. But who knows when?”
Manager Responds to Album Speculation
In response to the growing buzz, band manager David Singleton issued a statement titled New Album Rumors, attempting to temper expectations. Referencing a comment from the late drummer Bill Rieflin, Singleton noted:
“Why make a studio album? There are excellent live recordings of all the songs out there already.”
Still, he acknowledged that something new may be brewing: “One possible answer would be an album the very sound of which no-one has ever heard before. A sound driven by the three drummers.” He confirmed that the drummers had recorded their parts in the studio individually, ensuring perfect audio separation.
Too Early to Celebrate
Singleton made it clear that while recordings have happened, nothing is set in stone.
“Whether it is an album, whether it sees the light of day, whether it is something else is unknown. So yes, recordings have taken place. Getting excited… is somewhat premature. Carts before horses.”
Jakszyk also confirmed that core members Tony Levin, Mel Collins, Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison, and Jeremy Stacey were part of these sessions, working on material developed since King Crimson’s 2013 comeback.
