Kansas – Carry On Wayward Son (Live)

Kansas Carries On
From the opening a cappella harmonies and introspective lyrics to the awesome guitar and organ solos featured, ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ by Kansas cemented its way into music history. It’s one of my favorite songs, and I hope it’s one of yours too!
What I love about Kansas is that they’re one of very few bands that sounds just as outstanding live as they do on studio recordings, if not better.
Basically, ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ never sounds bad – if anything, it’s more powerful when done live!
Singer Kerry Livgren’s voice seems to get better with age. In this live rendition of ‘Carry On Wayward Son’, his voice is just as rich and strong as it was when he originally wrote the song nearly 40 years ago.
‘Carry On Wayward Son’ is about Kerry Livgren’s search for spirituality and the meaning of life.
This is a performance for the record books – it’s got kind of a mystical feel, almost like the concert is taking place in a game of Dungeons and Dragons!
I love Kansas, and ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ is one of the most timeless, immortal songs in classic rock history. If it’s not your favorite song, it should be!

Carry on my wayward son
There’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more
Ah
Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I’m dreaming,
I can hear them say
Carry on my wayward son,
There’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man,
Well, it surely means that I don’t know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about, I’m like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune,
But I hear the voices say
Carry on my wayward son
There’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more no!
Carry on,
You will always remember
Carry on,
Nothing equals the splendor
Now your life’s no longer empty
Surely heaven waits for you
Carry on my wayward son
There’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry,
Don’t you cry no more,
No more!
