Journey Cancels UK Tour Amidst Internal Legal Troubles

Journey has unexpectedly canceled the U.K. and Ireland leg of their 50th-anniversary tour. The shows are now marked as canceled on Ticketmaster, and the London concert is no longer listed on the O2’s website.

Ticket holders have received emails confirming the cancellation, stating:

“Due to circumstances beyond the band’s control, Journey’s UK and Ireland tour is unfortunately canceled. Refunds will be made from your point of purchase.”

This abrupt cancellation follows a new legal dispute between band members Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon. While North American shows with Def Leppard continue, wrapping up in September, the lawsuit has highlighted a significant rift within the band.

The ongoing lawsuit echoes previous disputes from 2022 involving a band credit card. Cain’s recent court filing accuses Schon of maxing out an American Express card with a $1 million limit, claiming Schon “has spent up to $10,000 per night.” The lawsuit also notes that Journey’s financial troubles have reached a point where the crew and production company have not been paid. “Situations like that have begun impacting the band’s reputation throughout the music industry,” the suit claims. It adds that “the band’s actual onstage performance is, at the moment, one of the only aspects of the business that has not suffered.”

Cain has proposed restructuring Freedom 2020 Inc., the company that he co-founded with Schon to manage Journey’s touring operations. Currently, the company operates with only a two-seat board held by Cain and Schon. The new petition seeks a court-appointed custodian to serve as a third board member to help resolve tie votes.

Journey’s legal struggles, which began in 2020, seemed to have been resolved with the establishment of a new organizational structure that included Cain, Schon, and their respective spouses. Notably, Michaele Schon is not a respondent in Cain’s latest lawsuit.
