Jon Bon Jovi Shares That Massive Pop Star Kept Him From Going No. 1

Bon Jovi’s latest album, Forever, debuted at No. 5 in its first week of release. Jon Bon Jovi believes it could have reached the No. 1 spot if not for the stiff competition from Taylor Swift.

At the time, Swift’s album The Tortured Poets Department, released in 2024, held the top position on the charts. In a recent interview with Audacy, Bon Jovi jokingly remarked, “If it weren’t for that pesky Taylor [Swift] girl, we would have been No. 1 everywhere!” Despite the playful lament, he remained positive about the band’s ongoing success, adding:

“Isn’t it fantastic that, on our 18th album, we’re still having big hit successes? So, it’s knock on wood, and why not be joyful?”

Jon Bon Jovi’s Praise for Taylor Swift

But Bon Jovi’s playful comment shouldn’t be mistaken for any ill will toward Swift. The rock legend himself has frequently expressed admiration and deep respect for her talent and achievements in the music industry. In an interview with Variety last June, Bon Jovi commended her for staying true to herself and connecting with her audience uniquely. “She created an industry. She utilized what she does best,” he said. “She sings like Taylor Swift. She plays guitar like Taylor Swift. She’s not trying to be something that she’s not, and it has connected with an audience that is unique.” His acknowledgment of her influence and success highlights the mutual admiration between two of the music industry’s biggest names.

For the rock icon, the continued success of Forever is a testament to the band’s enduring appeal and the loyal fan base they’ve cultivated over the decades. The friendly competition with Swift only adds to the excitement and vibrancy of the music scene, showing that there’s always room at the top for multiple talented artists.
