A Night of Surprise Guests
Los Angeles witnessed a memorable evening when the Joe Perry Project opened for The Who at the Hollywood Bowl. Just hours earlier, Aerosmith had revealed plans for their first new music in 13 years. Perry’s band has toured steadily in recent weeks with Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford joining the run. During this Hollywood set, Perry and Whitford welcomed Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler to the stage for a pair of the band’s biggest hits.
The crowd erupted as the trio, joined by Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes, Robert DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots, Aerosmith touring keyboardist Buck Johnson, and longtime Joe Perry Project drummer Jason Sutter, powered through “Walk This Way” and their hit cover of “Train Kept a Rollin’.” Earlier in the show, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash added his signature sound to a lively rendition of “Mama Kin,” giving the night an extra jolt of energy.

Past Connections and Shared History
Slash’s appearance marked a reunion of sorts. Back in 2014, Aerosmith and Slash toured together on the Let Rock Rule Tour, playing 21 shows across the United States and Canada. Both acts were still promoting albums released in 2012—Aerosmith’s Music from Another Dimension! and Slash’s Apocalyptic Love, featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators.
This latest collaboration adds another chapter to their long history. The Hollywood Bowl crowd witnessed not just a celebration of classic rock songs but the rekindling of friendships forged over decades of touring.
Recent Moves in the Aerosmith Camp
The surprise performance arrives amid growing activity within Aerosmith. Bassist Tom Hamilton has been on the road with his new band Close Enemies, while Perry and Whitford finish their Joe Perry Project shows. In July, Steven Tyler joined Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne for their final concert in Birmingham, UK. On the same day as the Hollywood Bowl show, Aerosmith announced a new EP with rising rocker YUNGBLUD, keeping excitement high for fans worldwide.
Although the group’s Peace Out farewell tour was officially cancelled over a year ago, these unexpected appearances spark questions about a possible reunion. Tyler’s strong vocals suggest that limited shows or a single hometown event could still happen. Some fans hope Aerosmith might follow the Black Sabbath example and stage one grand finale in Boston, where their story began.
The Ongoing Buzz
Whether or not a full reunion is on the horizon, the Hollywood Bowl spectacle showed that the band members still share undeniable chemistry. Fans left the venue thrilled by a night of surprise collaborations, classic hits, and the unmistakable sound that made Aerosmith legends.
