Joe Perry Doubts Another Aerosmith Tour as Tyler Bows Out of Touring Talk

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has revealed that frontman Steven Tyler “doesn’t want to tour” with the band anymore following their troubled 2023 farewell tour.

The band kicked off their Peace Out farewell tour in September 2023 but had to halt after just three shows when Tyler suffered a larynx injury. The tour was eventually canceled, and Aerosmith officially retired from touring in August 2024 as Tyler’s condition failed to improve.

Tyler’s recent energetic performance at Ozzy Osbourne’s Back to the Beginning farewell concert sparked rumors of a potential Aerosmith comeback, but Perry has now made it clear that another full-scale tour isn’t in the cards.

Perry Discusses Touring Realities and Future Plans

Speaking with WBUR, Perry shared, “There’s been talk about doing a documentary; that might be part of it. I’ve been spending a lot of time with Steven, and he just doesn’t want to tour and he can’t tour. It’s tough.” He admitted that the idea of embarking on another demanding 40-city tour isn’t appealing, adding:

“It’s a long way to the top, and staying there takes it out of you, especially an Aerosmith tour.”

When asked about the possibility of a Las Vegas residency like their Deuces Are Wild shows in 2019 and 2022, Perry was cautious:

“I’ll never say never, but I wouldn’t bet on it — no pun intended. You really have to want to be out there, and we’re all at that point of: How do you want to live? How do you want to spend the next however long you’ve got?”

A Final Aerosmith Show Remains Possible

Despite ruling out touring, Perry hasn’t dismissed the idea of one last Aerosmith performance. “I would bet that there’s an Aerosmith show left,” he said, echoing comments he made earlier this year on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation. Perry explained:

“I know there’s got to be at least another Aerosmith gig, and I’m not looking forward to putting the set list together for that one.”

Regarding Tyler’s ability to perform one final show, Perry was optimistic:

“I think he would. I think it’s just a matter of getting there. I mean, we’re up there, man. And it’s a lot.”

Joe Perry’s 2025 Solo Tour Approaches

While Aerosmith remains mostly inactive, Perry is preparing for a North American tour with the Joe Perry Project, starting Wednesday in Tampa, Florida. The lineup features Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford, touring keyboardist and vocalist Buck Johnson, Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo, and Chris Robinson from The Black Crowes on lead vocals.

Originally, STP drummer Eric Kretz was set to join but had to step down due to a family emergency. Jason Sutter, a longtime collaborator who’s toured with Smash Mouth and Cher, will fill in on drums.

Perry described the project’s vibe as “loose” and likened it to “a garage band playing on a stage in front of people.” He added, “These gigs with these guys are kind of a dream – this lineup is kind of selling the places.”
