Fans in Manchester were disappointed Thursday night as Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra had to cancel their show at Co-Op Live due to illness. It was set to be the second-to-last stop on their Over and Out farewell tour.
A message on the band’s social media confirmed the news:
“Unfortunately due to illness tonight’s scheduled performance of Jeff Lynne’s ELO at the Co-Op Live will not be going ahead. Jeff is devastated he cannot perform this evening. More information will become available as soon as possible.”
Lynne’s Resilience Despite Injury
The final leg of the tour began on July 5, but not without complications. Lynne took the stage despite having a broken hand—an injury he hasn’t publicly explained. Still, he showed up for fans, even if he couldn’t play guitar.
“I’ve had a guitar in my hand all my life, but not tonight,” he told the audience, who responded with supportive cheers. “Nothing would keep me away from you.”
A Grand Finale at Hyde Park
With the Manchester show canceled, the only remaining concert on the tour is set for Sunday, July 13, at London’s Hyde Park. It’s expected to be a major event, featuring The Doobie Brothers and Steve Winwood as opening acts.
For Lynne, the venue is significant. “My return to touring began at Hyde Park in 2014. It seems like the perfect place to do our final show,” he said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more excited to share this special night in London with our U.K. fans. As the song goes, ‘We’re gonna do it one more time!’”
