The Amazon boss, Jeff Bezos, was recently reported to have given the legendary Dolly Parton a massive $100 million dollars.
The money that Bezos gave to Parton will be used for a good cause as it will be put towards charitable causes of Parton’s choice. Prior to this announcement, it was earlier revealed that the Amazon boss plans to donate most of his fortune.
The 76-year-old country music legend has the power to choose any charity organization that will become her beneficiary. Reports came earlier this week that Bezos has pledged to give away most of his $124 billion net worth. After Parton, he will again choose other celebrity benefactors to help him with his will.
When Bezos was invited for an interview with CNN, he was asked whether he plans to donate most of his net worth within his lifetime, and he answered without hesitation, “Yeah, I do.”
In a recent statement, the Amazon boss’ partner Lauren Sanchez, meanwhile, described Parton as “a woman who gives with her heart and leads with love and compassion in every aspect of her work.” She added:
“We can’t wait to see all the good that you’re going to do with this $100 million award.”
This Bezos Courage & Civility Award aims to recognize public figures who “pursue solutions with courage and civility.” When Parton was awarded the donation she couldn’t seem to believe it. She exclaimed:
“Wow! Did you say $100 million?
“When people are in a position to help, they should help. And I know that I’ve always said, ‘I try to put my money where my heart is, and I think you do the same thing,” she addressed Bezos. “I will do my best to do good things with this money. Thank you, Jeff.”
Knowing the legendary icon, her compassion for the needy is not surprising at all. Back in 2020, Parton donated $1 million towards Covid-19 vaccination research, which proved successful.
