Jane’s Addiction Trio Moves Forward Without Perry Farrell

While Jane’s Addiction’s turbulent 2024 tour seems to have ended their run as a band, three of its members appear eager to continue making music together.

In recent days, guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins have shared glimpses on social media of studio sessions with producer Robert Adam Stevenson. Navarro kicked things off by posting a photo of himself and Stevenson in a recording studio, captioned, “Good to reconnect and visit with my old pal @robertadamstevenson.” Soon after, Avery and Navarro shared a clip showing a studio setup with music playing, simply captioned “The boys.” Then, on August 20, all three musicians—Navarro, Avery, and Perkins—along with Stevenson posted a video from the studio, with Navarro writing, “Back at it with @ericaveryinsta @stephenperkinsdrummer & @robertadamstevenson.”

The 2024 Fallout and Legal Battles

Jane’s Addiction’s drama escalated following Avery’s 2022 return and their release of “Imminent Redemption,” the band’s first new track from the core four in over three decades. However, tensions flared during their 2024 tour, culminating in an onstage altercation between frontman Perry Farrell and Navarro during a show in Boston. The incident led to the tour’s cancellation and the shelving of additional new music.

Public apologies were exchanged, but Navarro has since made it clear there’s “no chance” of a band reunion. Meanwhile, Farrell and the other three members have engaged in legal disputes, each filing lawsuits against the other.

A New Chapter Without Farrell?

This isn’t the first time Navarro and Perkins have made music apart from Farrell. After Jane’s Addiction’s third breakup in 2006, they formed The Panic Channel with bassist Chris Chaney and vocalist Steve Isaacs. The group released one album, (ONe), which spawned singles like “Why Cry” and “Treehouse of the Spirits,” gaining moderate radio play and peaking at No. 110 on the Billboard 200. The band dissolved shortly after touring, with Navarro and Perkins eventually returning to Jane’s Addiction.

Now, with Navarro, Avery, and Perkins back in the studio—without Farrell—it appears they’re exploring new creative territory. Though their previous collaboration had already produced two songs before the 2024 fallout, the current sessions hint at a musical bond the trio is reluctant to abandon.

Given the ongoing legal complexities, whatever project emerges from this partnership will likely adopt a new name, marking a fresh start for these three longtime collaborators.
