Legendary guitarist Jake E. Lee recently opened up about a frightening experience near his Las Vegas home, where he was shot three times while walking his dog, Coco. Sharing his story on social media, he explained the details of the October incident in the spirit of Thanksgiving, reflecting on how things could have been much worse.

Lee had been walking Coco late at night when he noticed two people seemingly trying to steal a motorcycle. When he confronted them, one of them opened fire, shooting 15 times. Lee shared:

“We were about 50ft apart when I heard the shots.
“I quickly realized he wasn’t aiming at me. He was aiming at my dog!”

Protecting Coco: A Heroic Move

In the heat of the moment, Lee acted fast to save Coco. “I threw my end of the leash at Coco and yelled to go home. He did. He’s a good boy,” he said. Despite his quick thinking, Lee was hit by three bullets, the first striking his left forearm. He explained:

“The first shot to hit me was in my left forearm.
“It entered about an inch below the elbow on the underside and exited topside. It felt like a burn—not particularly painful, just like a quick burning sensation.”

A Thankful Spirit

Fortunately, the injury to his arm wasn’t severe. Lee said:

“It missed any bones and my elbow joint and has healed remarkably quickly.
“The scars aren’t much bigger or darker than some of my age spots… I’d probably have to point them out for you to notice.”

Lee expressed his gratitude that the damage to his fretting arm was minimal and that Coco was unharmed. He concluded:

“In the spirit of giving thanks, I am most thankful my dog wasn’t hurt, and also the damage to my fretting arm was minimal. Unlike the other wounds, which I’ll get to in Part 2.”

For now, fans can rest assured that both Jake E. Lee and Coco are safe, though his story is far from over.
