After decades of fan anticipation, Buckingham Nicks—the 1973 debut album from Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks—is finally getting an official reissue. Despite its near-mythic status among Fleetwood Mac followers, the album has never been released on CD and hasn’t seen a vinyl pressing since 1982.

Hopes for something special were sparked recently when Buckingham and Nicks began a coordinated social media push, prompting speculation about a reunion. While that’s not (yet) in the cards, the album’s return is enough to stir major excitement.

“Everyone agrees that the record needs to come out,” Buckingham told Classic Rock back in 2014. “But everyone also agrees that it needs to come out at a time when there can be some kind of event to promote it, and no one knows what that is.”

From LA Studios to Rock History

Recorded before they joined Fleetwood Mac, Buckingham Nicks captured the raw creative chemistry between two rising artists. And it was one song—Frozen Love—that caught Mick Fleetwood’s ear during a visit to Sound City Studios in 1973. That moment led him to invite Buckingham to join Fleetwood Mac—with the now-famous condition that Nicks come too.

“[We] knew what we had as a duo, two songwriters that sang really well together,” Nicks tells journalist David Fricke in the reissue’s liner notes. “And it was a very natural thing, from the beginning.”

“It stands up in a way you hope it would, by these two kids who were pretty young to be doing that work,” Buckingham adds.

What’s in the Reissue

The reissue features a fresh remaster from the original analog tapes and will be available on CD and vinyl. Fans can expect several vinyl color variants, including a limited Rhino “High Fidelity” edition. That deluxe version will also include reissues of two vintage 1973 singles: Crying In The Night b/w Stephanie and Don’t Let Me Down Again b/w Races Are Run.

Buckingham Nicks drops September 19 and is available for pre-order now.
