Hear Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Dream for a Better World in ‘Tick Tock’!

The Clock is Ticking…
Stevie Ray Vaughan and his brother Jimmie may have only released one album together during Stevie’s lifetime, but in true Vaughan fashion it was a fantastic one.
Their 1990 album Family Style featured the hit song ‘Tick Tock’ – written by both Vaughan brothers, but it was mainly Stevie’s wish for a better world.
‘Tick Tock’ is a a reminder that our time is short, and that our time is better spent leaving a better place for our children to inherit.
I wonder if Stevie knew his time was limited and was expressing his hopes that he’d done his best to contribute to a better world? We sure think so!
Family Style featuring ‘Tick Tock’ was released a month after Stevie’s tragic death, and a week before what would have been his 36th birthday.
I love that Family Style serves as a really cool, heartfelt time capsule for Jimmie Vaughan!
The clock eventually ran out for Stevie Ray Vaughan, but he definitely used his short time to help unify people as best he could. You HAVE to check out the Vaughan brothers performing ‘Tick Tock’, it’ll really make you think!
+ Tick Tock lyrics +
One night while sleeping in my bed
I had a beautiful dream
That all the people of the world got together
On the same wavelength
And began helping one another
Now in this dream universal love was the theme of the day
Peace and understanding and it happened this way
The sick, the hungry, had smiles on their faces
The tired and the homeless had family all around
The streets and the cities were all beautiful places
And the walls came tumblin’ down
People of the world all had it together
Had it together for the boys and the girls
And the children of the world look forward to a future
Remember
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock people
Time’s tickin’ away
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock people
Time’s tickin’ away
I had a vision of blue skies from sea to shining sea
All the trees in the forest stood strong and tall again
Everything was clean and pretty and safe for you and me
The worst of enemies became the best of friends
People of the world all had it together
Had it together for the boys and the girls
And the children of the world look forward to a future
Remember
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock people
Time’s tickin’ away
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock people
Time’s tickin’ away
Remember that, remember that
Remember that, remember that
People of the world all had it together
Had it together for the boys and the girls
And the children of the world look forward to a future
Remember
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock people
Time’s tickin’ away
Remeber that
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock people
Time’s tickin’ away
