He Plays Eagles’ “Hotel California” On Hammered Dulcimer | Society Of Rock Videos

Incredible!

Y’all, when it comes to musical instruments we’re pretty sure we’ve seen everything under the sun: frying pans, shotguns, Harley parts, you name it and people will inevitably craft a guitar out of it. However, we were thrown for a loop when we were introduced to the hammered dulcimer courtesy of master musician Ted Yoder, currently taking the YouTube world by storm and leaving other musicians quakin’ in their boots with his classic rock and metal covers. Yoder’s hammered dulcimer turns some of your favorite tunes into these intricate, delicate arrangements including the Eagles’ iconic “Hotel California,” leaving these rock fans at a loss for words at how gorgeous his interpretation proves to be.

Fun Fact: Joe Walsh and Don Felder initially wanted to improvise the solo in “Hotel California,” but Don Henley convinced them to stick to the original demo brought forth by Felder.

Where all too many artists take artistic liberties with “Hotel California” and too many classics like it, trying to do the impossible by improving upon perfection, Yoder follows the original blueprint. Swaying, serenading guitars and a relaxed tempo, letting the music take him where it wants him to go – much like the feeling “Hotel California” has given us for over 40 years, the one that makes you want to hop in your car and bomb down the highway at sunset, singing at the top of your lungs. The result is a cover that’s not afraid to stand out a cut above the rest while still respectfully giving credit where credit is due, and it’s one that we’re sure you’ll love as much as we did. Enjoy!
