Guns N’ Roses – ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ Live in Tokyo, 1992

1992: The Year of Guns N’ Roses
‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ by Guns N’ Roses is probably one of the most iconic songs of the 1990’s, easily recognized by Slash’s intro – a bright, string skipping riff that always makes me smile and pretend I’m Axl Rose for the next three minutes.
Guns N’ Roses took over Tokyo for one of the most legendary tours of their career, always closing the night out with ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’.
What began as what the band describes as a ‘joke’ at the time they wrote it became a crowd favorite and a cultural staple, showcasing both Slash’s flawless guitar work and Axl Rose’s amazing vocal range.
The fact that ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ became such a gigantic hit for the band came as a shock, especially to Slash:
“It’s a great song — I’m not knocking it — but at the time, it just did not fit in with the rest of our, sort of, schtick. And, of course, it would be the biggest hit we ever had.”
Honestly, it’s one of the greater tragedies of my life that I was too young to see the original Guns N’ Roses perform this classic rock staple live – Tokyo, I envy you!
But hey – at least Guns N’ Roses will always be together in concert footage of their glory days!
+ Sweet Child Of Mine lyrics +
She’s got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I stared too long
I’d probably break down and cry
Sweet child o’ mine
Sweet love of mine
She’s got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I’d hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I’d hide
And pray for the thunder and the rain
To quietly pass me by
Sweet child o’ mine
Sweet love of mine
Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Sweet child o’ mine
