After five weeks back on stage in San Luis Obispo, Foo Fighters are reminding fans why they’ve been a rock mainstay for three decades. The band dropped a brand-new track today, “Asking for a Friend,” a song Grohl describes as a tribute to resilience, hope, and waiting for brighter days.
“Since our return to the stage, we’ve been reminded of why we love and are forever devoted to doing this Foo Fighters thing,” frontman Dave Grohl said. “From revisiting 30 years of songs to reimagining them with the incredible blessing of Ilan Rubin behind the drums, to reconnecting with our amazing fans, we have the most solid core. And the sun is finally rising over the horizon.”
A Track for the Long Haul
Grohl called the new song a message for those who have held on through uncertainty:
“‘Asking for a Friend’ is for those who have waited patiently in the cold, relying on hope and faith for their horizon to appear. Searching for proof while hanging by a wish until the sun shines again.”
The Foo Fighters frontman also hinted that this release is just the start of more new material:
“It’s one of many songs to come.”
Touring, Drummer Updates, and a 30-Year Legacy
The new song coincides with the announcement of a North American stadium tour, featuring Queens of the Stone Age. This will be the band’s first tour with new drummer Ilan Rubin (formerly of Nine Inch Nails), replacing Josh Freese, who has returned to NIN.
Marking 30 years since their self-titled debut, Grohl reflected on the band’s rollercoaster journey:
“Over the years, we’ve had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak. Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat. We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can’t go it alone.”
A Band That Still Gives Everything
With a new track, a stadium tour, and three decades of music behind them, Foo Fighters are proving they’re not slowing down. From the first chord to the last encore, Grohl and the band remain dedicated to their fans, their craft, and their enduring place in rock history.
