Van Halen fans are voicing their frustration after drummer Alex Van Halen’s recent remarks about how the other members didn’t “do the band justice.” His comments quickly made headlines, sparking a wave of reactions online, with fans and critics not holding back.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) expressed his disbelief, writing, “WTF is his problem. Of course they did. And fans love it. The VH brothers were difficult, and Roth is impossible.” Music journalist Dave Wight chimed in, saying, “Well, maybe if you had participated, they could have done the band justice. Al seems to have a bug up his ass with Sammy.”
Fans Defend Sammy Hagar
Many fans defended Sammy Hagar, who fronted the band during some of its most successful years. One fan commented, “The more Alex opens his mouth, the less I like him. Sammy made him some serious money. Sammy could also sing in tune, write songs, and perform. Oh, and play well with others.” This sentiment seems to be shared by many, as Hagar’s era with Van Halen is often praised by a large portion of the fanbase.
Alex’s controversial comment came in response to why he wasn’t interested in participating in the ‘Best Of All Worlds’ tour. “I’m not interested. They’re not doing the band justice. They can do what they want. That’s not my business,” he said, sparking the backlash.
Alex Van Halen’s Memoir, ‘Brothers’
The timing of Alex’s comment comes as he promotes his upcoming memoir, Brothers. The book reportedly skips over much of Hagar’s time with Van Halen, as well as the brief period with Gary Cherone and the band’s reunion with David Lee Roth in 2007. Fans are left wondering if this omission hints at lingering tensions between Alex and his former bandmates.
There’s not a bit of a doubt that Van Halen’s legacy still captivates fans around the world. But for now, Alex’s comments seem to have stirred up some unresolved feelings among the fanbase.
