Rock stars are weighing in on President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. The 81-year-old President, facing mounting pressure after a poor debate performance against Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump last month, has decided to end his re-election bid. Polls indicate Biden is trailing Trump in several key battleground states, with concerns about his age and diminishing coherence during public appearances affecting voter support.

In a statement posted on social media, Biden said:

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Rock musicians have been quick to respond. Former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach expressed his frustration on social media, writing, “Never in my life will I understand how a debate on TV could mean more than an insurrection on the Capitol,” referring to the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol attack.

Ted Nugent posted a photo of current Vice President Kamala Harris with her face replaced by former President Barack Obama, signaling his anticipation of Harris becoming the new Democratic candidate, a shift Biden himself has suggested.

Other rock stars shared their thoughts on X (formerly Twitter). Dee Snider emphasized the importance of focusing on key issues:

“REMEMBER WE HAVE ONE JOB! Stop Project 2025 and restore women’s right to choose! That’s it.”

Tracii Guns shared a post by Michael McFaul, which read, “@JoeBiden will go down in history as one of our greatest presidents. This last act of sacrifice for his country guarantees it.” Guns added, “He did it for the good of the country not because snotty democrats publicly shamed him,” and “Joe Biden put America first.”

Cher also took to X, saying:

“In my heart I’m tortured, Because I Don’t believe the Democrats Can win the Presidency With “Pres Biden” “Joe” whom I’ve Loved since we met in 2008. I campaigned for him. I believe ITS TIME 2 PASS THE BATON. TIME 4 DEMS 2 THINK “WAY” OUTSIDE THE BOX. MAYBE EVEN A SPLIT TICKET.”
