Elton John, the legendary Rocketman, opened up about his health struggles during the premiere of his new documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late. At 77, the music icon has faced numerous surgeries, including hip and knee procedures, and he doesn’t shy away from making light of his condition.

“To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left,” Elton joked, sharing his health journey with fans. “I don’t have tonsils, adenoids, or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate, a right hip, or a left knee. In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip. But I’m still here.” His humor and resilience still shine despite these current challenges.
In addition to discussing his health, Elton expressed deep gratitude to his fans and credited his husband, David Furnish, and their two sons for bringing immense joy into his life.
“I found complete and utter happiness and bliss when I met David and when I had our children. I’ve never felt happiness like I have now.”
Retirement from Touring in 2023
Elton also touched on his decision to retire from touring after his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in 2023. He explained:
“I decided to stop touring because I’m 77 years of age.
“I’ve done all there is to do, to play. I’ve succeeded. I’ve been there and I’ve done it.”
Even though he’s stepping back from the road, Elton reassured fans that music will always be a part of his life. In true Rocketman fashion, he treated the audience at the documentary premiere to a live performance of “Tiny Dancer,” reminding everyone of his incredible talent.

Elton John: Never Too Late will hit theaters for a limited run starting November 15 and will be available on Disney+ on December 13. The documentary takes a deep dive into Elton’s life, covering everything from his early music career to his struggles with addiction. A highlight of the film is his final North American concert, which took place on November 20, 2022, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
