At 77, rock legend Sir Elton John is embracing his final chapter, but with a strict diet that may surprise his fans.

The Rocketman was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes early in 2000, which led him to say goodbye to many of his favorite sweets. Now, his indulgences are limited to small bites of fruit. He shared:

“I can have an apple, I can eat a bit of melon.
“As long as you’re sensible about it, it doesn’t shoot your blood sugar up. But what I crave is chocolate and ice cream; I can’t have any ice cream.”

Despite this major lifestyle shift, Elton still dreams of a “death row meal” packed with treats he can no longer enjoy. “If I had a death row meal, it wouldn’t contain anything except sweets,” he admitted, fantasizing about “ice cream, donuts, apple pie, rhubarb crumble.” His longing for the sugary indulgences he once enjoyed paints a bittersweet picture of a rock icon facing his own mortality.

Reflecting on Health Challenges and Legacy

Elton’s journey hasn’t been easy. Over the years, he’s undergone surgeries for knee and hip replacements and faced a prostate cancer diagnosis. Recently, he revealed an eye infection that has left him with limited vision in one eye. “Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” he wrote on Instagram. Though he’s optimistic about recovery, he acknowledged that healing is slow.

With a touch of humor, Elton reflected on his health struggles, listing all he’s endured: “I don’t have tonsils, adenoids, or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate. I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee.” But the singer is well aware of what lies ahead, admitting, “This is the latter time of my life. I don’t know how much time I have left.”

Despite retiring from music tours, Elton isn’t ready to let go of music. “I will be working on records, putting together radio shows, and doing other things, but traveling takes so much out of you,” he said. After decades of electrifying performances, Elton is feeling the weight of his age and the toll his career has taken on his body. “This is where you start to think about mortality,” The iconic artist admits the constant travel has been exhausting for him.

Finding Happiness in Family

Despite his health challenges, Elton’s heart is full. The rock legend credits his husband David Furnish and their two sons, Zachary and Elijah, with giving him a new sense of joy. “I’ve never felt happiness like I’m feeling now,” he shared, emphasizing that his family has made him “the happiest man in the world.” The decision to retire from touring came from his desire to spend more time with them. “The most important thing in my life is David, Zachary, and Elijah, and my family and my friends.”

Elton’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, and he’s content stepping back from the spotlight. “I decided to stop touring because I’m 77 years of age; I’ve done all there is to do. I’ve succeeded,” he said. Yet, his love for music remains, and he’s excited about staying involved through projects that don’t require the grueling travel schedule.

Now, as he looks forward to life off the road, Elton has found his own version of “utopia.” He’s ready to enjoy each precious moment with his loved ones and soak in the happiness that they bring. “I found utopia, and I’m so thrilled,” he said.
