Few can rival the legacy that Dolly Parton has achieved in country music. Aside from her illustrious music career, she has also made her mark on the silver screen and opened her theme park. While many artists have achieved icon status, Parton also used her fame to build a brand and give back to those in need.
Recently, she witnessed her hit song โJoleneโ receive a modern twist when Beyoncรฉ covered it on her debut country album, Cowboy Carter.
In an interview with E! News, Parton admitted she was somewhat surprised by Beyoncรฉ’s decision to cover her iconic song and add her unique spin to it.
โI think it was very bold of her. When they said she was gonna do โJolene,โ I expected it to be my regular one, but it wasnโt. But I love what she did to it. And as a songwriter, you love the fact that people do your songs no matter how they do them.โ
Reflecting on how Beyoncรฉโs version differs from her own, Parton joked:
โShe wasnโt gonna go beg some other woman like I did. โDonโt steal my man.โ [Instead, Beyoncรฉ says] โS**t, get out here, b**ch. You ainโt stealinโ mine.โโ

โI thought she did a great job in country music, and I thought it was great. And I was just happy she did โJolene.โ I, of course, would have loved to have heard how she would have done it in its original way. But of course, you know, itโs Beyoncรฉ. Yeah, her life is different than mine.โ
Looking ahead to the GRAMMY Awards, Parton expressed excitement about Cowboy Carter likely earning some accolades. When asked if she would be willing to perform on stage with Beyoncรฉ at the Grammys, Parton seemed enthusiastic. Parton said:
โWhy of course I would โ if Iโm available, if Iโm not caught up in something I cannot get out of, yeah, thatโd be wonderful.
โI mean, who wouldnโt wanna sing โJoleneโ with Beyoncรฉ?โ
