Delta Plane Crashed At Toronto Airport

Eighty people were on board a Delta Airlines flight from Minneapolis when it crashed at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday afternoon. Fortunately, there were no fatalities despite the incident sending emergency personnel racing to the area. However, one passenger was in critical condition, and several others were injured.

Emergency Response: A Race Against Time

The CRJ-900 plane landed at 2:45 p.m. shortly after. EST, emergency personnel rushed to the scene and arrived in a matter of minutes after air traffic control reported the horrifying scene: “The aircraft is upside down and burning.” Deborah Flint, CEO of Toronto Pearson, reassured the public that all passengers were safely evacuated as a result of the airport’s prompt and effective reaction.

Todd Aitken, the fire chief, verified that 18 people—including a child—were transported to nearby hospitals. Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Ontario’s premier trauma hospital, received one seriously injured patient. However, because of confidentiality restrictions, the hospital has not shared information regarding the patient’s condition.

Officials Respond as Investigation Begins

The cause of the crash is currently being looked into by authorities. The investigation is being led by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB), an independent organization that specializes in transportation accidents. Chief Aitken emphasized that the runway was dry at the time of landing and that the weather was clear, therefore he advised against speculations.

The 80 passengers—76 passengers and four crew members—have all been identified and accounted for, according to Canadian Transport Minister Anita Anand. In the meantime, Delta Airlines issued a statement admitting to the accident and verifying that the flight was operated by Endeavor Air, a minor airline owned by Delta.

Officials from the government also had their say. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said he had spoken with Delta and congratulated first responders for their prompt action, while Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed relief that no one was hurt.

Airport Operations Resumed

By 5 p.m., Toronto Pearson Airport has resumed regular operations following a brief halt to flights. EST. However, when authorities carried out their investigation, travelers were cautioned to anticipate delays.

Everyone survived thanks to the prompt action of first responders, airport employees, and medical professionals, even though the situation could have been much worse.
