Debbie Harry Reveals the Actor She Wants to Play Her in a Potential Blondie Biopic

Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry has weighed in on who she’d want to portray her in a potential biopic — and her answer is as bold as it is fitting. In a recent interview with The Times, the iconic singer didn’t hesitate to name British actor Florence Pugh as her top choice.
“If it were somebody like Florence Pugh, I would be in heaven,” Harry said. “I just think she’s a great actor and she could do anything.”
Interestingly, the admiration might be mutual. Back in 2020, during a panel appearance at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Pugh was asked which real-life figures she’d love to bring to life on screen. Her answer? “Blondie, just because she’s so cool.”
From Hollywood to Music Videos
While Pugh has carved out a reputation as one of the most versatile actors of her generation, she’s also dabbled in the music world. She appeared in a Flyte music video and later delivered a haunting performance in Yungblud’s “Zombie,” portraying a distressed doctor opposite the artist’s hospital-room scenes. These roles, while brief, showcased her ability to channel raw emotion — a skill that would be crucial in portraying a figure as enigmatic and dynamic as Harry.
With her mix of grit, glamour, and emotional range, Pugh seems like a natural fit for the role — if the project ever moves forward.
Blondie’s Future: A New Album, No Biopic (Yet)
Though there’s no official biopic in development (at least not publicly), Blondie is far from stuck in the past. The band recently wrapped work on their 12th studio album, High Noon, produced by Grammy winner John Congleton. The record was completed before the passing of drummer Clem Burke earlier this year, marking a bittersweet milestone for the group.
A release date for High Noon hasn’t yet been announced, but fans are already buzzing with anticipation.
Harry’s comments come amid a wave of rock star biopics flooding Hollywood, with the trend showing no signs of slowing down. One high-profile project currently in production is Deliver Me From Nowhere, a film centered on Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska era, with The Bear star Jeremy Allen White taking on the role of The Boss himself.
Whether or not a Debbie Harry biopic ever sees the light of day, the idea of Florence Pugh donning the bleach-blonde hair and attitude of the Blondie frontwoman already has fans intrigued — and perhaps, one step closer to becoming a reality.
