This Won’t Be Easy

The 1970s was a golden age in music. Whether you’re leaning towards heavy metal or folk rock or blues rock, there’s something in it for you. But let’s admit it, that decade spawned a wide array of musical gems that it’s not easy picking out just ten songs to represent it.

So this little “debate” will be up to you. There will be two choices for each number. Are you ready?

10. Bruce Springsteen – “Born to Run” (1975) VS David Bowie – “Starman” (1972)

Bruce Springsteen broke into mainstream with his signature song while David Bowie morphed into one of his most popular alter egos.

9. John Lennon – “Imagine” (1971) VS George Harrison – “My Sweet Lord” (1970)

It may not be fair to pit them against each other but this is proof that George Harrison didn’t just get out of the Lennon-McCartney shadow but also that he could hold his own.

8. Simon & Garfunkel – “Bridge Over Troubled Water” (1970) VS Kansas – “Carry On Wayward Son” (1976)

Two of the reasons why the ’70s will always be one of the most unforgettable times in rock.

7. Chicago – “25 or 6 to 4” (1971) VS Golden Earring – “Radar Love” (1973)

This was a time when talent was all that matters. It’s no surprise why these became instant classics.

6. The Beatles – “Let It Be” (1970) VS Don McLean – “American Pie” (1971)

They both stood the test of time – great songs will never ever go out of style.

5. Thin Lizzy – “The Boys Are Back in Town” (1976) VS The Rolling Stones – “Brown Sugar” (1971)

This is a tough one, honestly. We’d pick both if we can.

4. Pink Floyd – “Comfortably Numb” (1979) VS Deep Purple – “Smoke On The Water” (1972)

The battle of guitar heroics.

3. Fleetwood Mac – “Go Your Own Way” (1977) VS Sex Pistols – “God Save The Queen” (1977)

Released on the same year but with different subgenres – with classic rock, your preference can be from opposite sides of the spectrum and they still got you covered.

2. Derek & The Dominos – “Layla” (1970) VS The Eagles – “Hotel California” (1976)

Songs every guitar player needs to learn how to play.

1. Queen – “Bohemian Rhapsody” (1975) VS Led Zeppelin – “Stairway to Heaven” (1971)

Masterpieces like these only come once (or twice) in a lifetime!
