Full Concert in California

David Lee Roth’s September 10 show at the Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, California, is now available to watch online. The video captures his entire set, featuring a long list of Van Halen classics and a few covers. The performance included “Panama,” “Drop Dead Legs,” “I’m the One,” “I’ll Wait,” “Beautiful Girls,” and a cover of The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me.” Roth kept the energy high with “Runnin’ With the Devil,” “Romeo Delight,” “Dance the Night Away,” “Mean Street,” and “Somebody Get Me a Doctor.” He also delivered “Jamie’s Cryin’,” “Unchained,” Roy Orbison’s “Oh, Pretty Woman,” “Ain’t Talkin’ ’Bout Love,” “Hot for Teacher,” “Everybody Wants Some!!,” and closed with “Jump.”

As with all his 2025 shows, Roth was backed by Al Estrada on guitar, Ryan Wheeler on bass, Francisco Valentino on drums, and Danny Wagner on keyboards. The Temecula performance marked the twentieth stop of his summer U.S. tour, which wraps up September 14 in Napa, California.

Return to the Stage

Roth launched his first full solo concert in over five years on May 3 at the M3 Rock Festival in Maryland. “We’ve reached the end of my first retirement,” he joked that night. “How many retirements did Rocky have? Nine?” His return follows a long career with Van Halen. Roth left the band after the success of their 1984 album to pursue a solo path, came back briefly in 1996, and then fronted Van Halen again from 2007 to 2020. The band last toured in 2015.

Studio Sessions and Vegas History

Recently, Roth has been releasing solo versions of Van Halen favorites such as “Jump,” “Unchained,” and “Panama.” These were recorded live on May 3, 2022, at Henson Recording Studio in Hollywood with Estrada, Wheeler, and Valentino. Fourteen songs were tracked in just two hours with “no samples” and no Auto-Tune.

Roth had earlier planned a Las Vegas farewell residency in 2022, but canceled the remaining shows due to COVID-related concerns. His previous Vegas run began January 8, 2020, featuring a 15-song set of Van Halen hits and solo material. Backed by Estrada, Frankie Lindri, Wheeler, Danny Wagner, and Mike Mussleman, Roth said he chose Vegas because “this is where you come to celebrate and do the victory dance, whatever that means to you.”

Reflecting on the Road

In a 2020 interview, Roth mused about the demands of rock performance. “I’m calling it ‘The Last Tour,’ and then underneath it in parentheses: ‘Unless It Isn’t,’” he said. “At my age, everything is a possible farewell tour. It’s been a long great trip, a long great run. But this kind of music requires the kind of energy that people in their 20s bring.”
