Building Toward the Next Project
When Pink Floyd co-founder David Gilmour released his 2024 solo record Luck and Strange, it ended a nine-year wait for new material. Now, fans may not have to wait nearly as long for the follow-up.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone promoting his upcoming concert film, Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome, Gilmour revealed that he has already begun shaping his next album. โIโm slowly building up towards a new album, and I have quite a bit of material that is in some sort of formative stage,โ he explained. โThatโs whatโs keeping me busy at the moment.โ
Shaping the Music
While Gilmour has ideas in motion, he is not yet ready to bring in his band. His creative process involves long stretches of refinement before moving forward. โI put things together so that I can fiddle around for months, adding little bits, taking things away till I think that Iโve got something close to where I want it,โ he said. โI then can take it into a studio with a bunch of people and know exactly what I want to do and how I want to get it done and present it to these people for their input.โ

How Soon Will It Arrive?
Asked how long fans might wait, Gilmour admitted that timelines are unpredictable but sounded optimistic. โItโs always my intention to be a bit quicker, and I suspect this one will be a bit quicker. But you never can tell. Within the next year or two,โ he shared.
A Film Experience for Fans
In the meantime, fans can experience Gilmourโs recent work in a different format. Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome captures a performance from his Luck and Strange tour, set among the ancient ruins. The film will be shown in theaters and IMAX beginning September 17.
