David Byrne Release New Song “She Explains Things to Me”

David Byrne has shared another single from his upcoming album Who Is the Sky?. The new track, titled “She Explains Things to Me”, is now available for streaming. The full album is scheduled for release on September 5, marking Byrne’s return with original material after a seven-year break.

Just over a week after the album drops, Byrne will kick off an international tour that will extend through March 2026, offering fans around the world a chance to hear the new music live.

Byrne’s First Album Since American Utopia

Who Is the Sky? is Byrne’s first new studio album since 2018’s American Utopia. The project features a wide range of collaborators, including St. Vincent, Hayley Williams of Paramore, and Tom Skinner of The Smile. The album was produced by Kid Harpoon, who has worked with major artists such as Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus, Lizzo, and Shawn Mendes. The mix of contributors suggests a diverse and genre-blending sound for the new release.

Creative Freedom in a New Chapter

Speaking about the creative process, Byrne reflected on how his perspective has evolved with time. “At my age, there’s this freedom that comes with not caring too much about what others think,” he said in a press release. “I feel more comfortable stepping outside my comfort zone because I have a better sense of who I am and what I want to create.”

He added that each new song is its own challenge, and collaborations only succeed when there’s a clear shared vision.

“If we’re able to align, we end up going somewhere unexpected—together.”
