Daryl Hall Is Not Losing Sleep Over John Oates’ Leave

Daryl Hall isn’t fretting over his public fallout with longtime musical partner John Oates; instead, he’s relishing his newfound professional freedom.

Hall shared with Billboard:

“John and I haven’t had a creative relationship for decades; the last song we wrote together was in 2000, and even that was with someone else.
“We toured endlessly, and it felt very restrictive for both of us. The truth is, John decided one day he didn’t want to continue. I accepted that, but the parting wasn’t smooth. John made the breakup difficult, and that’s where the issues began and still persist.”

The duo’s split became public last November when Hall filed a lawsuit and obtained a temporary restraining order against Oates. Hall aimed to prevent Oates from selling his share in their joint venture to Primary Wave Music, claiming it would breach their business agreement. Hall described Oates’ actions as the “ultimate business betrayal,” while Oates felt “deeply hurt” by the accusations.

Both artists have since acknowledged that Hall & Oates are officially over.

Daryl Hall Embraces Liberation in Renewed Solo Career

Hall has just released a new solo album, “D,” his first since 2011’s “Laughing Down Crying.” He told Billboard that he has always seen himself as a solo artist. “I’ve been a solo artist my whole life; I was just working with John, mostly,” he said.

Hall feels liberated to be on his own, as he now gets to focus on his entire catalog as he sees fit. Hall said:

“I can’t speak for John because I haven’t spoken to him in a long, long time, but I think he feels the same.
“Good for both of us. I can still play all the songs I’ve written over the years, whether under my name or Hall & Oates. It really frees me up.”
