When you think of Ozzy Osbourne, kindness might not be the first thing that comes to mind. But according to Conan O’Brien, the Prince of Darkness had a huge heart—especially when people needed it most.

In a hilarious and touching Late Night with Conan O’Brien segment from October 18, 2001, just weeks after the 9/11 attacks, Ozzy stepped in to lift spirits at the show’s offices. The clip has recently resurfaced on Reddit following Ozzy’s passing at age 76—and it’s a perfect reminder of how much joy he could bring.

Cheering Up the Late Night Staff

The segment opens with Conan giving Ozzy a simple mission: boost office morale. With his signature mumbles and cheeky grin, Ozzy picked up a phone at Conan’s desk and answered, “Hello, this is Ozzy Osbourne of the Conan O’Brien Show, can I help you?” A staff member named Frank was called over. “Frank Smiley?” Ozzy asked. “This one’s for you. Hold on.”

Seconds later, Ozzy started singing his iconic hit: “Crazy, but that’s how it goes / Millions of people living as foes…” When Conan asked what came next, Ozzy laughed, “Oh, God, I forgot!”

Conan didn’t miss a beat and finished the lyrics himself: “Still screaming, driving me insane / I’m going off the rails on a crazy train…” “You just got a free Ozzy concert,” he joked. And Ozzy agreed, “Conan and Ozzy—the dynamic duo.”

Souvenirs and Silly Jokes

To thank Ozzy for his visit, Conan brought him a few goodies from the NBC store. First up? A Today Show cap. Ozzy asked, “The one with Regis on?” to which Conan replied, “No, Regis is not on the Today Show.”

Then came a Providence T-shirt (a show Ozzy clearly never watched), a pink shirt, an XFL shirt, and even a stuffed NBC peacock. Conan kept handing over items like a late-night Santa, while Ozzy reacted with surprise, confusion, and a few chuckles. And, yes, he did bite off the stuffed peacock’s head.

A Sweet, Funny Moment to Remember

This quick seven-minute video is more than just office fun—it’s a glimpse of Ozzy’s softer side. As Conan said, “Ozzy, I really want to thank you for cheering up the staff.” And Ozzy simply replied, “My pleasure.”

Rock legend, yes. But Ozzy Osbourne was also someone who made people laugh—even when the world felt heavy.
