Michael J. Fox recently described his performance with Coldplay at the Glastonbury Festival as “mind-blowing.” The iconic British band headlined the Pyramid stage on June 29, making history as the first act to headline the festival five times. They opened with their classic hit “Yellow,” delivering what The Independent lauded as a “spectacle of a lifetime.”

Throughout their set, frontman Chris Martin introduced several guest stars, including Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna. However, the highlight was undoubtedly Michael J. Fox’s appearance. The Back to the Future star, who has been battling Parkinson’s disease, joined Coldplay on guitar for “Humankind” and “Fix You,” captivating a 100,000-strong crowd.

Following the performance, Fox expressed his gratitude on Instagram, thanking his team and the members of Coldplay. Fox wrote:

“My team: Lauren, John, Jeff, and Steve. Glastonbury, all the love and thanks to the @coldplay team who took such great care of us. And many thanks to Chris, Will, Johnny, Guy, and Phil. Oh yeah, in case you were wondering…it was f****** mind-blowing. There is a time for every band and a band for every time. This is @coldplay’s time.”

Chris Martin had teased Fox’s appearance earlier in the set, making a nod to Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode,” famously performed by Fox’s character Marty McFly in the 1985 film Back to the Future. Towards the end of “Fix You,” Martin explained the significance of Fox’s participation, saying:

“The main reason why we’re in a band is because of watching Back to the Future. So thank you to our hero forever and one of the most amazing people on Earth, Mr. Michael J. Fox. Thank you so much, Michael, our hero.”

This isn’t the first time Fox has performed with Coldplay. In 2016, he joined them on stage at Metlife Stadium, where they played “Johnny B. Goode.”

Coldplay’s Glastonbury performance attracted a constellation of stars. Viewing from the side stage platform were Martin’s on-off girlfriend Dakota Johnson, Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg of the Mission: Impossible franchise, and Gillian Anderson.
