From His Fellow Rockers

The rock world was shocked to its core when news of Dusty Hill’s death broke on Tuesday. The ZZ Top bassist was recently sidelined after suffering from “hip issues”. At a July 23 gig, the band brought their longtime guitar tech Elwood Francis on stage as replacement. And so, no one expected that Hill would pass away so suddenly.

Hill played with the Texas blues rock outfit for more than fifty years, and in that amount of time, he achieved legendary status along with his bandmates.

Several of his peers and musicians from different generations took to social media to pay tribute to him.

“We are devastated to hear about Dusty’s passing,” Creedence Clearwater Revival’s John Fogerty tweeted. “We were so blessed to share the stage with the great Dusty and ZZ Top many times, and if that wasn’t rock ‘n’ roll heaven, I don’t know what is. The show we did together just last week would be his last. So heartbreaking.”

“So very sad to hear Dusty has passed,” David Coverdale wrote. “Beautiful soul.”

“Ahhhh man, I love Dusty Hill,” Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea said. “A true rocker. What a straight jammer.”
